Your Canine's Sense of Smell
A much larger part of a dog’s brain is devoted to processing smells than yours. Some search dogs locate people buried under the snow of avalanches, search for evidence in crime, and find people in the water. Cloudy days, mornings, and evenings are the best times for dogs to search. And depending on the conditions, dogs can pick up a scent up to a half a mile away!

Always Read the Kennel Boarding Contract Before Signing
Reading the boarding contract will not only tell you what to
expect from the kennel; it will also tell you something
about the attitude in general of the people who use it. Is
the contract one-sided, discussing your responsibilities but
not those of the kennel? Or does it seem fair? Does the
kennel accept accountability for things that would be its
fault (like the theft of animals), or does the contract
basically say you are leaving your dog at your own risk? If
the contract seems

|
generally well-intentioned but you have questions, make sure
the staff can answer them to your satisfaction. (And if the
contract seems mean-spirited, you may think twice about using
the kennel.) By the time you have decided that you are willing to entrust your pet to a certain kennel, you should have collected all the information you need on charges for board, regulations, the daily schedule, emergency procedures, and extra charges for things like grooming, certain foods or special activities. You should feel confident that, in exchange for your hard-earned cash, the staff will try to keep your dog happy, healthy, comfortable and safe.
