Your Canine's Sense of Smell
A much larger part of a dog’s brain is devoted to processing smells than yours. Some search dogs locate people buried under the snow of avalanches, search for evidence in crime, and find people in the water. Cloudy days, mornings, and evenings are the best times for dogs to search. And depending on the conditions, dogs can pick up a scent up to a half a mile away!

Preparing Your Dog’s (Big) “Overnight” Bag
Especially if you’re going to be leaving your dog at the
kennel the day you’re leaving town yourself, it will be
helpful to have your dog’s bag packed in advance. It’s a
terrible thing to miss a flight, and that’s just what might
happen if you arrive at the kennel without the vet’s report
or important medicines! Pack your dog’s bag days before
you’ve packed yours, making sure to sanitize everything the
kennel requires first. Choose a few of his favorite toys and
chew-toys, and (if the kennels’ rules allow) bring something
he can cuddle into in his crate. Label everything
